EcoSat turns high resolution satellite imagery into spatial data and uses the unique reflectance properties of vegetation, lake and sea bottoms in the image and creates distinct polygon objects with spatial properties like area and perimeter. Aquatic habitat managers across the globe can use EcoSat to quickly assess and monitor change in wetland complexes, shallow lakes, tidal estuaries and marshes, and benthic habitats. See Examples


Vegetation Classifications

Create custom classification data. EcoSat algorithms are calibrated to generally produce fewer than two dozen unique classification displayed by default as a number. Users may have the desire to delete or combine these classifications and rename them according to ground truth information.

Custom Charts

Custom Lowrance/Simrad Charts of classifications are created automatically with each survey. Load the downloaded file onto your chartplotter and ground truth classifications. Upload ground truthed waypoints to your EcoSat survey in BioBase. See Example

Calibrated algorithms

Remote sensing experts interpret images; you interact with the output in the cloud. EcoSat leverages the expertise of a team of Remote Sensing Experts to rapidly process raw satellite imagery and create unique numbered vegetation objects (e.g., polygons in a shapefile). Shapefiles and raw imagery products that are often 100’s of MB large are delivered to BioBase’s powerful cloud servers. So you can interact and analyze outputs with ease on any internet-enabled mobile device in a secured online account!

EcoSound Integration

Use BioBase’s EcoSound to complement EcoSat and produce a complete picture of all aquatic environments! Since 2011, BioBase’s EcoSound has empowered aquatic biologists by creating detailed maps of submersed aquatic vegetation, depth, and bottom hardness using sonar and gps data from consumer sonar units. Now, with both EcoSat and EcoSound, biologists with minimal formal training can rapidly acquire highly detailed and objective maps of all vegetation present in an aquatic ecosystem, thus benefiting natural resource conservation.

Instant GIS Expertise

Be a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Expert without ever taking a class in GIS! Prior to EcoSat, acquiring ecosystem-wide habitat information required detailed and specialized knowledge of remote sensing technologies. As a result, advancements in satellite imagery processing have been out of reach for most project-based programs with minimal GIS expertise. Summary Reports

Summary reports automatically created with each order. The areas of each classification are automatically summed for the entire waterbody and survey area and delivered in an automated html report for sharing with partners
